Blue Lock Director Directs Nekomata Okayu’s “NekoKaburi Na” Anime Music Video

Hololive VTuber Nekomata Okayu recently released an anime music video for her new song, “NekoKaburi Na.” The video was released on February 22, the same date her birthday concert (where she performed the song) was streamed.

“NekoKaburi Na” is directed, storyboarded, and unit directed by Tetsuaki Watanabe, the director of the Blue Lock anime adaptation, and produced by Qzil.la. There are a couple of fan-service shots in the early part of the video, but Okayu spends most of it hanging out with a cat and advancing through a night-time street, her hands arched in a cat pose and moving from side to side with each step. For the chorus sections, Watanabe has Okayu dancing on a cat-shaped stage situated on the top of a cylindrical structure. The dances end with Okayu making a cute heart shape with her hands while she sings, “I like you for knowing what it’s like to be hurt.”

Kou Aine (VSPO! Shin Logo Animation PV, Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Episode 2 and 3 sub-character designer) contributed the character designs for the music video, and was also chief animation director and a key animator. Some of the other staff include:

• Art director/background artist: Atsushi Morikawa (art director of Re-Main, Golden Kamuy Season 1, Wolf’s Rain)
• Color designer/color coordinator/finishing checker: Chikako Kamata (color designer of Jujutsu Kaisen, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, “Seventeen” music video)
• Color designer/color coordinator/finishing checker: Mai Matsumoto (My Happy Marriage finishing staff)
• Compositing director/co-editor: Folium’s Daisuke Chiba (compositing director of Stardust Telepath and The Quintessential Quintuplets movie, Hololive Alternative 2nd Teaser PV [under his tyao pen name])
