The Shangri-La Frontier anime adaptation will continue with a second season this October. Like Season 1, it will run for two consecutive cours.
Shangri-La Frontier‘s first season ran from October 2023 to March of this year. The VRMMO-themed action anime is based on the Kodansha-published Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Nidoman tosu ~ manga written by Katarina and drawn by Ryousuke Fuji. Crunchyroll, Muse Asia, and Bilibili streamed the show.
Crunchyroll describes the premiese as:
“When was the last time I played a game that wasn’t crap?” This is a world in the near future where games that use display screens are classified as retro. Anything that can’t keep up with state-of-the-art VR technology is called a “crap game,” and you see a large number of crap games coming out.

The story of Shangri-La Frontier was first told as a Shousetsuka ni Narou web novel, which began in 2017. The manga, which is serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine and published under the KC Deluxe label, started in 2020 and has 16 tankoubon volumes as of December 2023.
