Dark Horse Manga has announced the upcoming release of Gunsmith Cats Omnibus Volume 1, with pre-orders for the book now open. The manga will be released in bookstores on February 4, 2025 and in comic shops on February 5, 2025.
The new edition of the girls-with-guns adventure manga series features translations by Dana Lewis and Toren Smith, with additional lettering and retouching done by Studio Cutie. It will be released in a paperback omnibus version that will span 596 pages.
Gunsmith Cats was written and illustrated by Kenichi Sonoda and was serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine from February 1991 to June 1997. Eight total tankobon volumes were released during its publication.
A sequel titled Gunsmith Cats Burst ran in the same magazine from September 2004 to October 2008, with five total tankobon volumes released. Dark Horse Comics released the sequel series in English for North America from 2007 to 2010.
The manga also inspired a 3-episode OVA series from OLM between 1995 and 1996. ADV Films first licensed the series for release in English in 1996. The rights were then transferred to AnimEigo, who launched a Kickstarter campaign to produce a new Blu-ray release in 2017.
Dark Horse Manga describes the synopsis of Gunsmith Cats as:
Rally Vincent runs Gunsmith Cats—a gun shop in Illinois, with her partner, demolitions expert and former call girl Minnie-May Hopkins. But Rally’s “real” job doesn’t pay the bills; her hobby does. Her hobby is bounty hunting: bringing the most wanted men and women in the Chicago area to justice—dressed in her sharp suit and tie and driving her Shelby Cobra GT 500!
But Rally and Minnie-May have their work cut out for them in Gunsmith Cats Omnibus Volume 1, with corrupt lawyers and cops, fetish-fueled hitmen, and crazed cocaine kingpins bringing the copters, the big rigs, and even the anti-tank guns onto the streets and the freeways of Chicagoland in a windshield whirlwind of double-crosses, car chases, and shootouts!
