Jujutsu Kaisen might be in its final stages as the protagonists find themselves embroiled in a drawn out battle with the King of Curses Sukuna. However, the showdown at Shinjuku has given Yuji some much needed power ups.
Though it was hinted way back in chapter 12 that Yuji would be able to use Sukuna’s technique, us readers had to wait more than 200 chapters after that to see him use Cleave and Dismantle. Totally worth the wait though.
And now that Yuji had finally gained a cursed technique, the next big question was – whether Yuji will finally get a domain expansion. After all, that is the pinnacle of Jujutsu Technique as far as fans are concerned.
JJK chapter 264 might have finally given us all the answer we need. According to the leaks that surfaced online, Yuji has used a domain expansion in the fight against Sukuna in JJK 264!
Did Yuji use Domain expansion in JJK 264?
Going by what happened previously, JJK 264 was seen as a chapter that will finally set Megumi free. However, nothing of that sort happened.
Sukuna, who has been standing tall all this time, conveniently managed to dodge Hana’s Jacob’s Ladder and proceeded to knock out both her and Todo.
When it seemed like Sukuna was once again going to come out victorious, especially after he gained RCT and his arms, Itadori delivered the goods. And then came the moment Yuji stans have been waiting for, even since it was revealed that he was able to use to Shrine.
Yes. Itadori finally used the domain expansion against Sukuna.
Now, we don’t exactly know what kind of Domain Expansion Itadori has, because as soon as he used it we shift to a random station scene.
Itadori’s domain expansion hand sign, though very close to that of Sukuna’s, is essentially different. So, we can’t say for sure if he is exactly using the Malevolent Shrine either!
Both Yuji and Sukuna – now back in the familiar form he was when he possessed Yuji – are seen there. This scene seemed like a callback to Gojo’s airport scene with Geto greeting him.
Before Yuji pulled off the Domain Expansion – we get a brief flashback of Gojo the vs Jogo fight – where Akutami had introduced the concept of domain fights. And using this flashback – Gege once again reiterates the point that a Cursed Technique that is imbued in the domain’s barrier is always hits the opponent.
This piece of information, though common knowledge, is crucial in the context of the recent chapters. Itadori has been giving Sukuna a hard time with his cleave and dismantle.
It was revealed in JJK 263 that he reduced the target area of the CT in order to effectively rend the boundary between Sukuna and Megumi’s soul. This even made Sukuna throw up the fingers he had previously consume.
Realizing how dangerous this attack was, Sukuna has constantly been dodging Yuji’s dismantle and cleave. However, now that he opened his domain, I am pretty sure Itadori imbued the barrier with the same soul rending Cleave.
The reason we see Sukuna at the station – which is reminiscent of Gojo at the airport, is because Yuji’s domain could have succeeded in separating Sukuna and Megumi’s soul.
While the situation will only be cleared in the next chapter, another important question begs to be answered.
How did Itadori learn the domain expansion:
Domain Expansion is not an easy technique to manifest. A prodigy like Megumi too had a hard time to fully realize his domain. In fact, in both instances where we see him use one- it was an incomplete one.
So, how was Itadori, who only learnt to use his cursed technique recently, use a complex technique like the Domain Expansion so readily?
Well, the answer lies in the training (or cheating) that Itadori did in the one month prior to the Shinjuku Showdown.
During this one month, Itadori was aided by Ui Ui’s soul swapping technique, which let him switch bodies with Kusakabe in order to train.
And since Kusakabe was knowledgeable barrier techniques, we can assume that Itadori learnt the basics quite well. Also, there is that dialogue from chapter 258.
The reason why Itadori was able to develop rapidly as a sorcerer is because Sukuna possessed his body and kept exposing it to high level jujutsu.
This let him become accustomed to techniques like the Shrine and even Domain Expansion – that too a barrierless one.
Another point is that Itadori is said to have the same latent potential as Sukuna, thanks to Kenjaku’s actions.
Put all the above points together, and it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that Itadori mastered the domain expansion so quickly.
