Mononoke Anime Film Confirmed To Be A Trilogy; Second Part’s Release Date Revealed


The Mononoke anime film has been confirmed to be a trilogy. This was revealed on the official X account of the anime on July 28, 2024, following the recent release of the first film titled Mononoke: Karakasa.

The second film is titled Mononoke the Movie: Hinezumi (Fire Rat), and is set to premiere on March 14, 2025.

Hiroshi Kamiya recently confirmed during a stage event for the first film that he will reprise the role of the Medicine Seller in the second film and that he would start recording on July 28.

The tickets for the second film will go on sale starting Aug 2, 2024. The film’s staff have also unveiled the exclusive design for the tickets. Check it out below:

Additionally, a third film is planned to conclude the project. More details on this is yet to be revealed.

Mononoke: Karakasa anime film released on July 26, 2024, with Hiroshi Kamiya performing the role of the Medicine Seller.

Twin Engine is in charge of the movie’s production, with Kenji Nakamura serving as the director. Kitsuneko Nagata is in charge of character designing.

A manga adaptation for Mononoke: Karakasa anime film, illustrated by Kitsuneko Nagata, who served as the character designer of the film, and started serialization on Comic DAYS from May 26, 2024.

Mononoke is a spin-off of one of the episodes, Bakeneko, from the Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales TV anime. It began airing in the Noitamina block on Fuji TV in July 2007. It is a Japanese avant-garde anime television series produced by Toei Animation.

A manga adaptation of the original Bakeneko arc was published in Young Gangan between Aug 17, 2007 and Aug 1, 2008. The individual chapters were collected and released in two tankobon.

A second manga series by Tokuma Shoten started on Sep 25, 2013 in the Monthly Comic Zenon magazine. The manga came to an end in Nov 25, 2014, with its chapters collected into 2 tankobon volumes.
