A new special video set to the late Koji Wada’s “Butter-Fly” has been released in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Digimon Adventure anime series. The first entry in the long-running monster battle franchise aired from March 7, 1999 to March 26, 2000.
The video highlights several of the main characters from Digimon Adventure and features a short dialogue from Agumon (voiced by Chinatsu Sakamoto). Masao Okubo (Record of Ragnarok) directed the animated video, with storyboarding done by Yu Kamatani (Looking for Magical DoReMi).
In addition, Digimon’s official Twitter account is teasing a special announcement on January 5, 2025.
Wada’s “Butter-Fly” was used as the first opening theme song for Digimon Adventure.
A special commemorative visual and PV trailer celebrating the anime’s 25th anniversary were also released this past March.
The Digimon franchise first began in 1997 as a line of virtual pet toys, before inspiring several anime series that began in 1999. The franchise has also inspired several anime films, video games, manga series, an OVA, collectible card game, and more.
Recent entries in the franchise include the 2020 Digimon Adventure reboot series, 2021’s Digimon Ghost Game, the Digimon Tri film series from 2015-2018, and the 2023 film Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning. Toei Animation has handled the majority of the anime series’ animation production.


Crunchyroll is streaming the 2020 Digimon Adventure series and describes the synopsis as:
It’s the year 2020. The Network has become something humans can no longer do without in their daily lives. But what humans don’t know is that on the other side of the Network is the Digital World, a realm of light and darkness. Nor are they aware of the Digimon who live there.
Fifth grader Taichi Yagami stayed home by himself to get ready for a weekend summer camp, but his mother and little sister Hikari went to Shibuya, and now they’re aboard a runaway train.
