An animated music video for YOASOBI‘s “Butai ni Tatte,” NHK’s sports theme song for 2024, has been released on the music duo’s YouTube channel.
The stylized and tactile-feeling video, which evokes the feeling of animated sketches and artwork in many shots, is directed by Margt’s Isamu Maeda and Arata Takabatake. The character designs come from ONU, while the animation direction is handled by mimoid’s Ryoji Yamada.
Among the other staff credits are Hanae Sugi as background artist and Nanase Akiyama and Naoki Arima as assistant directors. mimoid and XOR Inc. are credited for animation production and VFX production, respectively.
“Butai ni Tatte” was first played during NHK’s broadcast of the 108th JAAF Athletics Championships. NHK also announced its intention to use the song for other sporting events this year, such as the Paris Olympics and Paralympics.
As part of the song’s creation process, sports-themed one-shots from Taizan5, Yuki Kirishima, and Hirushita Haruno — titled Hanareta Futari, Parallel Lane, and Owaranai Deuce, respectively — were published on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ and adapted into short novels by Jun Esaka. These short novels are described as being the source material for “Butai ni Tatte.”
