A new single from Fire Bomber, the fictional rock band featured in 1994 to 1995’s Macross 7, is set to be released on October 30, 2024 JST.
“BURN! BURN! BURN!” is a commemorative single for the 30th anniversary of Macross 7 and is billed as the band’s first new song in 12 years. 2012’s “Nyan Nyan FIRE!! ~ Totsugeki Planet Explosion” had Fire Bomber as one of the guest artists (along with May’n, Macross F‘s Ranka Lee, and Ai Nakajima), with Sheryl Nome (also from Macross F) credited as the main singer.
The new single will also include two solo songs — one from Fire Bomber frontman and Macross 7 protagonist Basara Nekki (singing voice: Yoshiki Fukuyama) and the other from Fire Bomber bassist and backing vocalist Mylene Flare Jenius (singing voice: Chie Kajiura). For the jacket cover, the anime’s character draft designer Haruhiko Minamoto (Super Dimension Fortress Macross character designer) has drawn a brand new illustration.
The first production run of “BURN! BURN! BURN!” will come with special packaging.
In addition to “BURN! BURN! BURN!,” a vinyl release of Macross 7 ULTRA FIRE!! FIRE BOMBER BEST ALBUM will also launch on October 30, 2024 JST. The greatest hits collection was originally released in 1999 as ULTRA FIRE!! FIRE BOMBER BEST ALBUM following several Fire Bomber albums.
These reveals come less than a month after the announcement of the “MACROSS 7 30th Anniv. BASARA EXPLOSION 2024 from Fire Bomber” concert, which will begin its tour at KT Zepp Yokohama on September 15 JST before heading to Zepp Namba (September 23 JST), Zepp Nagoya (October 11 JST), and Zepp Divercity (November 1 JST).
The Macross franchise, which is known for its combination of mecha action and singing, started with the 1982-1983 series Super Dimension Fortress Macross. In April 2021, after a lengthy period of notorious legal complications, Bigwest announced that all Macross anime that were produced after 1987 will be released worldwide. In March of this year, it was announced that Disney+ would be the streaming home of these shows.
Disney+ describes the premise of Macross 7 as:
A.D. 2045. Macross 7 is under attack, and rocker Basara Nekki wants to stop this war through song.
A new, Sunrise-produced Macross anime was announced last June.
