Sukuna’s Last Finger In JJK 266 & Confusion Surrounding It Explained!

Sukuna’s fingers are the cornerstone of Jujutsu Kaisen, each one holding a fraction of the King of Curses’ immense power.

Over the course of the series, the consumption of these fingers by Yuji Itadori has been a pivotal plot point, driving the story forward and also being a cause of havoc and destruction.

However, confusion arises when it comes to the status of Sukuna’s fingers, especially the last one.

In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 266, this confusion only increases with the reveal of what appeared to be one of Sukuna’s final fingers bound in an unknown location.

To clarify this mystery, let’s examine what happened to Sukuna’s last finger and where it might be now.

What Happened to Sukuna’s Last Finger?

Before delving into the mystery of the last finger, it’s essential to understand the current status of Sukuna’s other fingers. Yuji Itadori has consumed a total of 15 fingers throughout the series:

  1. First Finger: Itadori consumed this finger in Chapter 1 when he inadvertently swallowed it, marking the beginning of his connection with Sukuna.
  2. Second Finger: Given to Itadori by Gojo Satoru, this finger was consumed shortly after the first.
  3. Third Finger: Consumed by Sukuna himself during the Juvenile Detention Center incident.
  4. Fourth Finger: Consumed during the Origin of Obedience arc when Megumi Fushiguro handed the finger to Itadori. Sukuna’s mouth on Itadori’s hand ingested it.
  5. Fifth to Fifteenth Fingers: During the Shibuya Incident, 10 fingers were force-fed to Itadori in quick succession. Just before this, Mimiko and Nanako fed Itadori another finger, bringing the total to 15 fingers.

Now, during Sukuna’s transfer from Itadori to Megumi, Sukuna converted Itadori’s pinky finger into a cursed object, allowing him to switch vessels.

This brings us to the current state, where Sukuna, in possession of Megumi’s body, consumed three more fingers delivered by Uraume just before his battle with Gojo. This brings the total to eighteen fingers.

This leaves two fingers unaccounted for: one finger Gojo had supposedly hidden and another revealed to be sealed inside Itadori, as hinted at in Chapter 257. This led to assumptions that Yuji himself was Sukuna’s last finger.

Itadori says he is now like a cursed object

This begs the question—what is the significance of the finger seen in Chapter 266?

What is the significance of Sukuna’s Finger in JJK 266?

The answer to this question may be closely tied to Itadori’s missing fingers, that were also revealed in the same chapter.

Sukuna's last finger as shown in JJK 266

One possible explanation is that Yuta Okkotsu might have consumed one of Itadori’s fingers to gain the ability to use Sukuna’s Cleave technique instead of Sukuna’s last finger hidden away by Gojo.

Here’s the catch, Yuta never mentioned explicitly that he ate Sukuna’s final finger, instead it was suggested by Sukuna himself.

Sukuna assumes Yuta ate the final finger

This has led the fandom to speculate that Yuta could have made Rika ingest one of Itadori’s fingers, since he too is shown to have the cleave technique.

But it is not without its downsides.

Another plausible theory is that the finger revealed in Chapter 266 is not one of Sukuna’s original fingers but rather a cursed object created by Itadori himself.

This scenario parallels what Sukuna did with Itadori’s pinky finger in Chapter 212, as explained in the article I previously wrote about Itadori’s missing fingers.

The third and weakest possibility is that the finger sealed inside Itadori was somehow unsealed.

However, this assumption is far-fetched for a couple of reasons. First, Kenjaku, who sealed the finger inside Itadori, is a master of sealing, making it highly unlikely that the seal could be undone so easily.

Second, the exact nature of Sukuna’s statement regarding his finger being sealed inside Itadori remains unclear, leaving this theory on shaky ground.

For now, the first two possibilities seem the most plausible.

Whether the finger seen in Chapter 266 is a newly created cursed object by Itadori, or Sukuna’s last finger will only confirmed in the upcoming chapter.

However, the main question still remains, what significance does the finger have here?

What could happen to the finger?

If it is indeed Sukuna’s finger finger, does Itadori plan on consuming it in order to make Sukuna shift vessels once again.

I don’t know if such a scenario will work out, because Sukuna is already incarnated and it would be hard to consume just one finger and make him switch back to Itadori.

But, if the finger we see is Itadori’s, then I have an interesting tinfoil theory lined up. Everyone..please wear your tinfoil hats.

What if, Itadori plans to ingest Sukuna with his finger. If they function the same way that Sukuna’s fingers did, then a part of Itadori will be inside Megumi’s body.

From here, he can possibly try to weaken the hold of Sukuna’s soul on Megumi’s body. According to me, this would be a surefire way to control Sukuna, because Itadori’s indomitable soul has done the same in the past before!

However, for this theory to work, Itadori should die first, I believe. Otherwise, the reincarnating part won’t work out. There is also the question of where the finger is stored, and how Itadori plans to get Sukuna to ingest it.

If this assumption does turn out to be true (which it most probably won’t), then we’ll see Megumi housing Itadori’s soul. Both of them living in a single body? Heh.

But then, there is a another parallel copium theory that is building up following the reveal of this finger – Nobara’s possible return.

Ever since it was revealed that one of Sukuna’s fingers was hidden away by Gojo, readers have been speculating that Nobara will use her resonance on the finger to deal severe damage to Sukuna and weaken him.

A precedence for this case was set during her fight with Mahito’s double. While the Resonance theory itself is solid, it’s Nobara’s status that is more ambigious.

Based on Akutami’s statements, and hints from the recent chapters, Nobara’s chances of returning do seem slim. However, now that a final finger is there in the picture, the theory-mills have started functioning overtime!! Let the copium spread!
