My Hero Academia The Movie: You’re Next has gotten a new trailer, which features the Vaundy ending song “Gift,” scenes of movie-original characters Anna Scervino and Giulio Gandini, and a number of action cuts.
The anime film had its Japanese theatrical debut on August 2 JST, and this post-release trailer might be a little too spoilery for international fans who haven’t gotten their chance to view the movie yet.
In addition to the trailer’s release, the X (formerly Twitter) account for My Hero Academia The Movie: You’re Next announced that the film had received more than 1.65 million moviegoers as of August 18 JST. Comic Natalie additionally reports that it has grossed over 2.38 billion yen (~US$16.23 million).
My Hero Academia The Movie: You’re Next is the fourth My Hero Academia movie, after 2018’s My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, 2019’s My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising, and 2021’s My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission, and will have its US premiere on October 11. Its plot involves newcomer named Dark Might, who leads a mysterious crime organization called the Gorini Family, appearing and declaring himself to be a new symbol to replace All Might. Also involved in the story are Anna, a daughter of the wealthy Scervino family who possesses a special quirk, and her butler Giulio, who is now trying to kill her for some reason.
The My Hero Academia franchise started with the Shueisha-published manga by Kohei Horikoshi, which debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2014 and ended on August 5, 2024 JST. Its TV anime adaptation began in 2016, with its seventh season premiering in May 2024.
Viz Media describes the manga as:
Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn’t got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. High School for budding heroes, his life is looking more and more like a dead end. Then an encounter with All Might, the greatest hero of them all, gives him a chance to change his destiny…
