Naoko Yamada‘s Garden of Remembrance short anime film will receive its Japanese streaming debut on August 30 JST.
A main trailer for the short, which was the winner of the Special Distinction Prize and Audience Prize at the 2023 Bucheon International Animation Festival, was also released.
Garden of Remembrance is the second team-up between Yamada (director of Liz and the Blue Bird, A Silent Voice, K-On!, the upcoming The Colors Within) and Science SARU, following the 2021 TV anime The Heike Story. The premise is described as:
Beer cans and a whisky glass are placed in an open space on the floor. Though a bit disorganized, ”Your” room is filled with art supplies and an electric guitar lining the perimeter of the room. The alarm on a phone goes off, and “You” leisurely wake up to start your day.
The anemone flower that “I” liked. A precious flower that holds memories which tie “You” and “I” together. After opening your bedroom closet one day, “You” become engrossed in your memories of “Me.” A story that represents “Me,” “You,” our “Childhood Friend,” and our goodbyes.
Yamada’s next feature film The Colors Within, also a Science SARU production, will premiere in Japan on the same date as Garden of Remembrance.
