A new teaser visual has been released for the upcoming theatrical special of Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!. The anime special is scheduled to be released theatrically in Japan on December 13, 2024.
The special theatrical edition of the BL anime will recap Adachi and Kurosawa’s relationship from the series, and adapt episodes that weren’t depicted before.
Yoshiko Okuda (Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits) is directing the anime special, with Tomoko Konparu (Love All Play, Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte) as screenwriter, Takahiro Kishida (Smile of the Arsnotoria the Animation) as character designer, and Tomoki Hasegawa as (Let’s Make a Mug Too) as music composer. Satelight is handling the animation production company.
Meanwhile, the anime’s main voice cast includes:
- • Chiaki Kobayashi as Kiyoshi Adachi
- • Ryota Suzuki as Yuichi Kurosawa
- • Ami Koshimizu as Nozomi Fujisaki
- • Gen Sato as Minato Wataya
- • Makoto Furukawa as Masato Tsuge
- • Yusuke Shirai as Yuta Rokkaku
The anime is based on the original BL manga series by Yuu Toyota, which was first launched digitally on Square Enix’s Gangan Pixiv web magazine on September 1, 2018. Fourteen tankobon volumes have been released as of April 2024. Square Enix has released the manga in English for North America since 2020.
The manga has been adapted into a 12-episode live-action TV drama that was broadcasted on TV Tokyo from October 9, 2020 to December 24, 2020. It also inspired a drama CD adaptation in 2019 and a Chinese radio drama in 2022.
A live-action film that serves as a sequel to the TV drama was released in Japanese theaters on April 8, 2022. Toyota donated a portion of the rights fee for the film’s adaptation to Marriage for All Japan — an organization advocating for same-sex marriage rights in Japan.
