My Hero Academia voice actor Elizabeth Maxwell expressed her disappointment over the handling of her character, Midnight’s, final scene in the anime.
Speaking to ComicBook during DragonCon, Maxwell shared her thoughts on the portrayal of Midnight’s death.
While expressing her respect for the show’s creators, Maxwell revealed disappointment that Midnight’s final stand wasn’t depicted in detail. She pointed out the action-packed fight scenes involving other heroes earlier in the series and contrasted it with Midnight’s off-screen demise.
“With all due respect to the creators, who I respect to the moon and back, I was disappointed that we didn’t get to see Midnight’s last stand. An episode or two ago, we saw these beautiful fight scenes with pro-heroes… It was a little disappointing to me that her fight and death were glossed over.”
Despite this, she revealed that the experience of voicing the character’s final scene was both cool and heartbreaking.
“She’s a Momma Bear and to go down feeling like you let your babies down is heartbreaking,” she added.
Midnight’s off-screen demise was not exclusive to the anime, as Horikoshi depicted her final moments the same way in the manga too.
Midnight was killed off in the sixth season of My Hero Academia.
