Japanese rock band Penpals announced earlier this week that the full main opening theme for the 1997 Berserk TV anime series “Tell Me Why” is now available on all major music streaming platforms.
Originally released in 1997, the song was only previously available in a short TV version on select streaming platforms. The full version will now be available on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music and other major streaming services worldwide.
Additionally, a music video of “Tell Me Why” is also now available for viewing on VAP’s Official YouTube channel.
To commemorate the full release of the single, a special playlist featuring Berserk’s most iconic opening and ending themes has been compiled for fans. The playlist includes several Penpals’ songs such as “TELL ME WHY,” Silver Fins’ “Waiting so long,” and series composer Susumu Hirasawa’s “BERSERK 〜Forces〜” track.
The anime is based on the late Kentaro Miura’s dark fantasy manga series, which was first launched in Hakusensha’s Monthly Animal House magazine on August 25, 1989, before transferring to Young Animal in 1992. A total of 41 tankobon volumes were released as of December 2021, before Miura’s passing. Dark Horse Comics releases the manga series in English, and will release the manga’s 42nd volume in March 2025.
The manga has inspired a 1997 TV anime series, a 2016 TV anime sequel, and The Golden Age Arc anime film trilogy, which also received a remastered Memorial Edition version in 2022.
