A new PV trailer has been revealed for the upcoming Kinokoinu: Mushroom Pup TV anime series, which will begin airing in Japan on October 3, 2024.
The trailer also previews the series’ main opening theme song “Kinokoinu” by HY. The ending theme, meanwhile, is “Heart b-b-beat!!” by IBERIs&.
Kagetoshi Asano is directing the anime series, with Jin Tanaka (OSHI NO KO) as series screenwriter, Daisuke Endo as character designer, and Akiyuki Tateyama (The Elusive Samurai) as music composer. C-Station is handling the animation production.
Meanwhile, the anime’s voice cast includes:

- • Yuto Uemura as Hotaru Yuyami
- • Anna Nagase as Komako Amano
- • Takuma Terashima as Yara
- • Misaki Kuno as Plum
- • Hinano as Anzu
- • Sayaka Senbongi as Tsubaki
The manga was written and illustrated by Kimama Aoboshi and ran in Tokuma Shoten’s Monthly Comic Ryu magazine from July 17, 2010 to February 28, 2022. A total of 15 tankobon volumes were released during its publication.
Digital Manga Publishing licensed the manga for release in North America, describing the main synopsis as:
A depressed author… A concerned editor… An eccentric mushroom researcher… And a strange pink mushroom…that turns into a dog?! Put this all together and you get Mushroom Pup.
Mushroom Pup tells a heart-warming tale of the power of friendship, a dog’s love, and the dangers of dwelling on regrets. With the help of his friends and the mysterious Mushroom Pup, Hotaru Yuyami, a grieving picture book author, slowly begins to move forward after the tragic loss of his beloved dog, Hanako. Full of laughs and warm moments, Mushroom Pup is sure to find a place in your heart.
