A new short PV trailer has been revealed for the upcoming seventh season of Natsume’s Book of Friends. The latest season in the long-running supernatural mystery series will begin broadcasting in Japan on October 7, 2024.
The trailer previews the seventh season’s main ending theme “Komari Warai” by Toshiki Kondo. It is also available to view on YouTube. Meanwhile, the opening theme is “Alca” by Hinata Kashiwagi.

Crunchyroll will stream the upcoming seventh season and has streamed the previous six seasons as well.
Takahiro Omori (Season 1-4 director) is returning as chief director for the series, with Hideki Ito (2018 movie) returning from the two recent films to direct the seventh season. Sadayuki Murai (Season 3) is also returning as series screenwriter and scriptwriter and Akira Takata (Season 1) is once again the character designer and Makoto Yoshimori (Baccano!, Durarara!!) is the music composer. Shuka is in charge of the animation production after taking over the work from Brain’s Base.
The last season of Natsume’s Book of Friends aired in 2017. The series later received two anime movies in 2018 and 2021, and has also inspired a few OVA episodes.
The anime is based on the supernatural mystery manga by Yuki Midorikawa, which began serialization as a one-shot in Hakusensha’s LaLa DX magazine from June 10, 2003 to April 10, 2008. It then moved to the publisher’s monthly sister magazine LaLa on July 24, 2007 where it has been serialized since. Thirty-one tankobon volumes have been released as of September 2024.
Viz Media licensed the manga for release in North America, which describes the main synopsis as:
When Reiko was Takashi’s age, she bound the names of demons and spirits in her Book of Friends, enslaving them to her capricious whim. Now Takashi is the owner of the book, and the creatures will do anything to get their names back.
