One month away from the premiere of Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, Netflix has released the opening scene from the 3DCG series to whet the appetites of Universal Century fans.
The clip depicts a Federation ambush on advancing Zeon forces in Romania, 11 months after the onset of the “revolutionary war.” It’s a primarily tank and infantry affair, until Zeon airdrops its iconic Zaku mobile suits to turn the tide. The clip ends before we can see the Zakus dishing out damage, however.
Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance will premiere on Netflix on October 17. The official synopsis reads:
In the year 0079 of the Universal Century, the Principality of Zeon declares independence from the Earth Federation, plunging the two nations into war. Thanks to a revolutionary new weapon known as a Mobile Suit, the Zeon Force initially gains the upper hand. However, they lacked the power to take control of the entire Earth, bringing the war to a stalemate.
Eleven months into the war, the Earth Federation forces manage to seize a Zeon-controlled base located in Eastern Europe. Among the mixed battalion headed to reclaim this base is Sorari and the Red Wolves division, a Mobile Suit platoon that has just descended from space.
The series was produced with Unreal Engine 5 and has Celia Massingham (Hedy Lamarr in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) providing the voice and motion capture performance for the protagonist.
