MAPPA has released a second trailer for the upcoming Ranma 1/2 anime remake.
In addition to showing more of Ranma and Akane’s relationship, the new trailer previews supporting characters like Shampoo and Ryoga and also plays a part of the opening song from ano. The latter’s newly revealed title is “Iinazukekkyun.”
Ranma 1/2 is set to begin its broadcast in Japan on October 5 JST (effectively October 6 at 12:55 AM JST), and will stream exclusively on Netflix. The synopsis of the romantic action-comedy anime reads:
Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo of Tendo Dojo are betrothed to each other by their parents. But Ranma faces a unique problem… Ever since he fell into the cursed springs of Jusenkyo while training in China, his body has acquired the peculiar trait of transforming into a girl when doused with cold water and reverting to a boy with hot water.
The Ranma 1/2 manga by Rumiko Takahashi debuted in the 36th 1987 issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday and ended in the 12th 1996 issue of the magazine. It originally inspired an 18-episode anime that began airing in 1989. This was followed by Ranma ½: Nettou-hen, which ran from 1989 to 1992 with 143 episodes.
The previous anime were produced by Studio Deen and had Atsuko Nakajima (Komi Can’t Communicate, Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto, Trinity Blood) as character designer. Tsutomu Shibayama (Chibi Maruko-chan co-director) directed the first series while Koji Sawai (.hack//Legend of the Twilight) and Junji Nishimura (Vlad Love, Extreme Hearts) co-directed Nettou-hen.
The new Ranma 1/2 anime is the second remake of a Takahashi manga after the four-cour Urusei Yatsura anime.
