Two new character trailers have been revealed for the upcoming The Stories of Girls Who Couldn’t Be Magicians TV anime series, highlighting Kurumi Mirai and Yuzu Ehderu. The anime (also known in Japan as Maho Tsukai ni Narenakatta Onna no Ko no Hanashi) will begin broadcasting in Japan on October 4, 2024.
Takashi Watanabe (How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom director) is serving as chief director for the series, with Masato Matsune (Reign of the Seven Spellblades) as director, Hiroko Kanasugi (Mewkledreamy) as series screenwriter, Lily Hoshino (Penguindrum) as original character designer, Mai Matsuura (King of Prism by Pretty Rhythm, Sirius the Jaeger co-character designer) as character designer, and Yoko Shimomura (Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal, Kingdom Hearts series) as music composer. J.C.STAFF is in charge of the animation production for the series.
Other staff includes Kentaro Izumi (A Certain Scientific Railgun T) as background art director, Mika Funabashi (Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts) as color designer, and Yurina Yagi (Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts) as compositing director.
Meanwhile, the anime’s main voice cast includes:

The anime adaptation is based on the novel submission of the same name by Yuzuki Akasaka, which was selected as the winner of Project ANIMA’s Isekai/Fantasy category. It was serialized on the Everystar website from March 2018 to September 2019.
Project ANIMA is a joint initiative by DeNA, Nippon Cultural Broadcasting, Sotsu, and MBS that focuses on the production of original TV anime, based on submitted novels, scripts, manga, and proposals that will serve as the shows’ premises. Other categories include Science Fiction/Robot and Kids/Game.
The 2021 anime series Sakugan was the Science Fiction/Robot category winner. The Kids/Game winner, Mobius Dust, is also inspiring an anime from Doga Kobo. Project ANIMA’s submission and selection processes took place between February 2018 and March 2019.
Crunchyroll has licensed The Stories of Girls Who Couldn’t Be Magicians and will simulcast it as part of its Fall 2024 anime lineup. It describes the main synopsis as:
At Letran Magic Academy, two unlikely friends share one dream: to become magicians. Kurumi is an average girl who’s a bit naive, while Yuzu is the distinguished daughter of a noble magician family. They need to get into a special magician training class, but they fail the entrance exam! All hope seems lost until mysterious homeroom teacher Minami Suzuki arrives, and their luck takes a sudden turn.
