FUNimation Entertainment announced at AnimeNEXT that it has acquired the simulcast rights to the Kingdom television anime series. Funimation will begin streaming the series on June 11, and new episodes will begin streaming on Mondays at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
The 38-episode series premiered in Japan on June 4 with a 50-minute first pilot episode. Based on Yasuhisa Hara’s historical manga, the series follows Li Xin and Hyo, two boys without families in the Warring States Period. Despite living like slaves, the boys strive to realize their dream of becoming warlords. Jun Kamiya is directing the series at Studio Pierrot, and Naruhisa Arakawa is in charge of series scripts.
