Chainsaw Man Chapter 175 Ending Explained: What’s Up With Yoru?

Chainsaw Man chapter 175 was nothing short of a masterpiece. It was easily one of the best naturally silent chapters.

Since the Black Chainsaw Man consumed the Mouth Devil in the previous chapter, the name and the concept associated with the devil were erased, resulting in world where people, and even devils had no mouths.

Naturally, this meant that no one would be able to speak, and we got a chapter with no dialogues. However, Fujimoto’s art, and his efforts into emoting the characters meant that we could still grasp what they were going through.

Be it the fear, or the total helplessness in the face of the terror known as the Chainsaw Man.

The Katana Man was at his usual getting sliced best. However, it was Yoru’s intervention in the battle that made Chainsaw Man chapter 175’s ending all the more intriguing.

What happened to Asa/Yoru:

For all that Public Safety promised and forecast in the previous chapter, it is safe to say that things have gotten out of hands when it comes to the Chainsaw Man situation.

And I mean literally. CSM 175, titled ‘Two Hands’, saw most of the cast who came up against the Hero of Hell in this chapter lose both their hands.

Be it the Aging Devil (Old Age devil), or Katana Man and even Asa.

Keeping the chaos under control? Fumiko and her bosses will have to think twice about making such a statement again!

The whole fiasco involving the Fire Devil had supposedly made the War Devil stronger. But, if we are to go by what happened in Chapter 175, we can safely say that Yoru’s powers pale in comparison to Pochita’s right now.

Her attacks, first of which involved using a sushi sword, did little to no damage to the chaos incarnate that she was up against.

Not only did she fail miserably, she also ended up losing the only arm she had left.

However, it is what happened next that has some fans confused. Despite losing her arms, Yoru kicks away the headless body of Katana Man away, and walks towards Chainsaw Man.

It was the set up for a classic face-off. Two long time foes walking towards each other on a desolate road, wind blowing in their faces. Not a single word was spoken, for their eyes communicated all they wanted to.

But suddenly, Yoru knelt (or tripped) in front of the Chainsaw Man and then looked up to give a stinging look, the meaning of which is being hotly debated.

Chainsaw Man chapter 175 Ending: What does it mean?

As I said, Yoru’s look is being hotly debated in the Chainsaw Man fandom right now. The general consensus is that it conveys her feeling of absolute defeat.

The raised eyebrows and the wide eyes could be suggesting that she realized she was no match for Chainsaw Man.

Buuuuuuttttt. I don’t think that is entirely true.

Before I get into any tinfoily assumptions though, there is one thing that we can all say for sure – Chainsaw Man chapter 175 ending has set up a flashback for Yoru.

And how did we come to this conclusion? Well, if you observe closely, you’ll see that background color of the chapter changes to black as we move into the final panel.

Chainsaw Man chapter 175 ending

This is a usual formatting style adapted in manga, and in Chainsaw Man, when we are about to get a flashback.

This flashback might be about the War Devil’s previous fight with Pochita—yes, the same Four Horsemen vs. Pochita battle that Makima hinted at towards the end of Part 1.

If that’s the case, the last pair of eyes we see in the chapter likely belongs to Yoru from the time she was the War Devil, not while possessing Asa’s body.

However, here’s something to consider—the world as a whole has forgotten the concept of mouths. So, Yoru’s memory, regardless of the flashback we are about to see, probably won’t feature mouths either.

History and reality, as we know it, have been altered, my friends.

Now, regarding Yoru’s expression at the end—I feel that instead of realizing she’s done for, it suggests she’s determined to do something, a last-ditch effort of sorts, which is likely connected to the flashback we’re about to see.

This brings me to the second possibility of the flashback.

Fami and Yoru had an infamous conversation back in Chapter 135, where Fami pointed out that the Red and Black Chainsaw Man are two different entities.

It’s also possible that Yoru, perhaps in collaboration with Fami, devised an incredibly powerful plan to defeat the Black Chainsaw Man. This flashback might be Fujimoto giving us a hint of what that plan is.

Anyway, I believe that Yoru’s eyes in the final panel suggest she’s about to do something extraordinary. The visible lack of sweat on her face also indicates that she isn’t intimidated or afraid of facing the Chainsaw Man. This is just my assumption, though.
