In a recent interview with Serieously at the Paris Fan Festival, Taz Skylar, the actor who portrayed Sanji in One Piece live-action series, revealed an anecdote involving the creator Eiichiro Oda, where he personally designed a One Piece tattoo for him.
During the interview, Skylar recounted a dinner with Oda in Japan, where he expressed his desire to get a One Piece themed tattoo. However, he felt overwhelmed by the vast options within the universe.
It was then Taz asked Oda if he could design something specific for the cast. To his delight, Oda graciously agreed and crafted a unique tattoo design specifically for him and his fellow cast members.
“When we went to have dinner with Oda in Japan, I wanted to get a One Piece tattoo for a while. There’s so much to choose from that I’m like what’s the thing? Like what is the one thing I want to get tattooed? So, I asked him (ODA) if he could draw us something specific and he drew this specifically for us to get.“
Detailing on the design, he explained that every part of the figure’s body represents a letter, collectively spelling out One Piece.
“He sent it to us like a few weeks after we got back from Japan,” he added.
In addition to the tattoo, Skylar shared another special moment involving Oda.
As a dedicated martial artist, Skylar was determined to earn his black belt before the release of the live-action series. To celebrate the milestone, he took his black belt to Oda’s house, where the creator signed it on the day of the series’ release.
“He signed by black belt too. So when we started the season, I was hell-bent that I was going to have my black belt by the time the show aired. I got my black belt 4 days before the show aired, and I took it to his house and he signed it the day it released. It was a really cool experience.“
