GKIDS has officially announced that Look Back, directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama and based on the manga by Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto, will hit theaters across North America starting Oct 4, 2024.
The film will be released in its original Japanese language with English subtitles.
The distributor also revealed that the ticket sales for the anime film is expected to open soon.
Look Back anime film released in the Japanese theatres on June 28, 2024, and grossed over 227 million yen in its first three days.
During the premiere of the film, director Oshiyama explained that he was still working on the film until the afternoon of the day before the premiere and that he had been staying at the studio for about two and a half months, often working late into the night.
Though it had a limited release, the film has earned 1.73 billion yen (US$11.43 million) at the Japanese box office as of Aug 18, 2024.
Studio Duran was in charge of the anime film’s production, while Kiyotaka Oshiyama directed, and handled the screenplay and also the character designs for Look Back.
The completion of the film came so close to the premiere that he was only able to return home and sleep in his bed for the first time in months the night before the event.
The director had previously hinted that he is aiming to create Look Back film differently from the manga.
Look Back is a Japanese one-shot web manga written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. It was published on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ in July 2021.
