Interview: Gary Oldman’s offer for Akira role

This Monday, MTV News posted an interview with the well-known actor Gary Oldman ( Fifth Element, Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter , Planet 51, Lost in Space), that included some questions about Gary Oldman’s offer for a role in the new upcoming live-action film adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira manga by Warner Brothers. In the interview Oldman said that he didn’t know yet if he will act in the film, however when he was asked about the script, Oldman said that it is interesting, and he is open at the moment. The role that had ben offered to Oldman is the role of Colonel in the film, as the Twitch Entertainment had reported in its site.

The Hollywood Reporter trade magzine’s Heat Vision blog reported last Tuesday that actress Kristen Stewart (Twilight, The Runaways, Snow White and the Huntsman) has been offered the  female role Ky Reed, “a woman who is part of an underground movement to expose the government for turning orphans into living weapons.”

Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) is in talks for the role of Kaneda, which The Hollywood Reporter described as Tetsuo’s “older brother” in Warner’s film. The Twitch website and The Hollywood Reporter previously said that Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech), Oldman, and Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean films) have all been approached for roles.
