Kodoku no Gourmet live-action film green-lit

The publisher Fusosha announced on Monday that a live-action television adaptation of Masayuki Kusumi and Jiro Taniguchi’s Kodoku no Gourmet (Solitary Gourmet) cuisine manga has been green-lit for next spring. The manga follows a solitary salesman as he travels all over Japan and samples the local cuisine.

Fusosha’s Weekly Spa! magazine and its other publications have been serializing the manga on an irregular basis since 1994. Only one book volume has been compiled so far, but its various editions have sold over 200,000 copies. The live-action show’s broadcast dates, cast information, and other details will be made public in the near future on the home page of TV Tokyo, the station airing the show.

Kusumi also wrote Hana no Zubora Meshi, another cuisine manga that was nominated for this year’s Manga Taisho (Cartoon Grand Prize) award. Hana no Zubora Meshi ranked as the #1 manga for female readers in the survey from the recently published Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2012 guidebook.
