The trial of Fukuta Kishimoto, who confessed to issuing death threats against voice actress Yui Ishikawa, has reached a conclusion with the Tokyo District Court delivering its verdict on Feb 9, 2024.
The court has sentenced Kishimoto to one year in prison. During the trial, the Tokyo District Court highlighted Kishimoto’s previous conviction for a similar offense, emphasizing his repeated engagement in threatening behaviour that endangered the lives of others.
In delivering the verdict, the court emphasized the gravity of Kishimoto’s actions, highlighting the fear and anxiety inflicted upon Ishikawa as a result of his threats.
Recognizing the severity of the offense, the Tokyo District Court deemed a prison sentence as appropriate punishment.
“Considering the fear and anxiety experienced by the victim, the consequences are significant, and a prison sentence is appropriate,” stated the court.
Kishimoto was arrested in November 2023 when he posted a threatening message on the internet forum, singling out renowned voice actor Yui Ishikawa. The ominous post read, “I will stab her randomly with a knife,” clearly indicating a violent intent.
During the initial court hearing, Kishimoto had made a straightforward admission, stating, “I did it. There is no doubt about that,” effectively acknowledging the charges brought against him.
This incident is not the first time Kishimoto has faced legal consequences for such behaviour. In 2020, he received a summary order with a fine of 500,000 yen for making murder threats on an online bulletin board, that time directed towards an anime director.
