10th Anime Trending Awards: Genre Awards Results

At the 10th Anime Trending Awards, 10 unique anime win out of the 11 available genre categories. With so many strong competitors in each category, the votes were harrowing.

Tengoku Daimakyou is the only series to win two genre awards this year: the Mystery or Psychological Anime of the Year and the Supernatural Anime of the Year, which is very reminiscent of the series winning the seasonal counterpart of the two genre awards. Unfortunately, Tengoku Daimakyou could not obtain the Action or Adventure Anime of the Year or the Sci-Fi or Mecha Anime of the Year, falling short just 153 votes and 155 votes, respectively.

In its place, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 wins the Action or Adventure Anime of the Year, while Dr. STONE New World wins the Sci-Fi or Mecha Anime of the Year. It’s likely that MAPPA’s magnificent portrayal of the Shibuya Incident Arc in Jujutsu Kaisen convinced fans to vote for the sorcery-based series, while Dr. Stone’s exhilarating post-apocalyptic setting continues to unfold new truths that fascinate fans to no end.

Going down the list, MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES wins Comedy Anime of the Year for its straightforward punchy comedy (pun intended) that outstrips The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You by 334 votes. Unsurprisingly,【OSHI NO KO】continues picking up more awards with it acquiring Drama Anime of the Year. It barely scraped by with 197 votes against My Happy Marriage.

In a close neck-and-neck for Fantasy Anime of the Year, The Eminence in Shadow clinches the award with nine extra votes over Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation S2. It must have been Cid Kagenou’s natural rizz (voiced by Seiichirou Yamashita) that spellbound fans, despite being an obnoxious fake himself. This win now puts two annual awards in The Eminence in Shadow’s court with Yamashita winning Best Voice Actor of the Year. However, it isn’t the only series to have both a genre and voice acting award at this year’s Anime Trending Awards ceremony.

My Happy Marriage comes out on top with its win for the Romance Anime of the Year, topping the popular contender The Dangers of My Heart by 260 votes. Although Kiyoka and Miyo could not obtain the Best Couple of the Year award after the tumultuous events in the series, Miyo Saimori’s quiet defiance and courage (voiced by Reina Ueda) must have rallied fans to her aid. This win now puts two annual awards in My Happy Marriage’s books with Ueda winning Best Voice Actress of the Year.

Following in the footsteps of Tengoku Daimakyou as a Disney+ licensed series, Blue Orchestra claims the Music Anime of the Year award over popular franchises like BanG Dream!, iDOLM@STER, Love Live!, and HYPNOSIS MIC. Although Blue Orchestra is far from the first series to break the monotony between these four franchises with 497 additional votes to its name, it is refreshing to see a new entry in the ranks.

Two other awards remain, though their popularity is fairly unmatched with SPY X FAMILY S2 and BLUE LOCK snatching up the Slice of Life Award of the Year and the Sport Anime of the Year, respectively. SPY X FAMILY S2 managed to slip by Skip and Loafer by 130 votes while BLUE LOCK outstripped its competition with a total of 5,270 votes.
