Annecy 2024’s recently unveiled Work-in-Progress lineup includes Hyakuemu, a feature adaptation of Uoto‘s (Orb: On the Movements of the Earth) first serialized manga.
The anime film is directed by On–Gaku: Our Sound‘s Kenji Iwaisawa and has a runtime of 1 hour 35 minutes. Comic Natalie reports that Hyakuemu will arrive in Japanese theaters in 2025.
Annecy has a still of the movie and the following synopsis:
Togashi is born to run. As a kid, he is naturally gifted and wins every 100-meter race without effort. But in sixth grade, he meets Komiya, a transfer student who is full of determination but lacks technique. In teaching him, Togashi gives Komiya a new purpose: to win no matter what. Years pass by, Togashi and Komiya meet again as rivals on the track and reveal their true selves.
The movie’s staff also includes Keisuke Kojima (My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World! character designer et al.) as character designer and animation director and Keikankun Yamaguchi as art director. ROCK’N ROLL MOUNTAIN is producing.
The Hyakuemu manga began serialization in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket in 2018 and ended in 2019. It has been collected into five tankoubon volumes.
