The production committee of The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 has announced a broadcast delay for Episode 22 of the anime, which was supposed to premiere on June 21 (effectively June 22 at 12 AM) JST.
Episode 22 will now debut on June 28 (or June 29 at 12 AM) JST, while an audio commentary version of Episode 19 — which, coincidentally, is another episode that had a delay — will fill its original slot.
Delays aren’t new to The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 — the first cour premiered in January 2023 but had to be rebroadcast in July of that year after getting a delay halfway through the cour. The current cour started airing on April 12 (effectively April 13 at 12 AM) JST.
The Misfit of Demon King Academy is based on the Dengeki Bunko light novel series written by Shu and illustrated by Yoshinori Shizuma. J-Novel Club describes the source material as:
Tired of ceaseless war destroying humans, spirits, and demons alike, the Demon King of Tyranny, Anos Voldigoad, reincarnates to restore peace. Two thousand years have passed…but who could have known that his descendants’ complacency would cause magic to regress so much? After receiving an invitation to the illustrious Demon King Academy, a school tasked with locating the reincarnated founding ancestor, Anos resolves to enroll, only to discover that his magic is off the charts—literally! With power too great to be measured, the former Demon King is branded a misfit. How will he convince demonkind that the school’s founder stands before them? Thus begins a misfit’s climb to the top of the demon hierarchy!
The light novels began in 2018, with the series having 20 volumes (including two-parters) as of June 2024. There is a Square Enix-published manga adaptation by the late Kayaharuka and a KADOKAWA-published manga anthology by various artists. The Misfit of Demon King Academy started as a Shousetsuka ni Narou web novel in 2017.
The first season of the anime debuted in 2020 and ran for 13 episodes. Season 2 of the anime is streaming on Crunchyroll and Bilibili. Yuichiro Umehara replaced Tatsuhisa Suzuki as main protagonist Anos Voldigord for the current season.
