Bones Is Producing a Gachiakuta Anime Adaptation

Kei Urana‘s Gachiakuta action manga is getting a anime adaptation produced by Studio Bones. The show will premiere in 2025.

Fumihiko Suganuma (Train to the End of the World chief episode director, T.P Bon Episode 6 storyboard artist and director) is directing the series with Hiroshi Seko (Wind Breaker, Jujutsu Kaisen) as series composer and Satoshi Ishino (Godzilla Singular Point) as character designer and chief animation director.

A teaser trailer and synopsis for the Gachiakuta anime have been released. The latter reads:

Rudo lives in the slums of a floating town, where the poor scrape by under the shadow of the rich who live a sumptuous life, simply casting their garbage off the side, into the abyss. Then one day, he’s falsely accused of murder, and his wrongful conviction leads to an unimaginable punishment—exile off the edge, with the rest of the trash. Down on the surface, the cast-off waste of humanity has bred vicious monsters, and if Rudo wants to have any hope of discovering the truth and seeking vengeance against those who cast him into Hell, he will have to master a new power and join a group known as the Cleaners who battle the hulking trash beasts of the Pit!

The manga started publication in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine and will release its 11th tankoubon volume on June 17, 2024. It was a Shonen Category finalist in the 47th and 48th Kodansha Manga Award. Kodansha USA publishes it in English.

Aside from Urana’s writing and drawings, the Gachiakuta manga also features graffiti art by Hideyoshi Ando.
