Crunchyroll to End Service for Funimation’s App & Website on April 2

Funimation has announced that Crunchyroll will sunset its website and app functionality on April 2nd, 2024, officially ending its overall service. The shutdown is part of Crunchyroll’s unification of content and services after its merger with Funimation in March 2022.

The company confirmed that most of its content is now available for streaming on Crunchyroll and that it is continually working to bring more content over from its library.

Existing Funimation users will have their current subscriptions rolled over to a Crunchyroll subscription by April 2. Moreover, if a Crunchyroll account and Funimation account have the same email credentials, both accounts will be merged, along with any watch history and queue lists. if the emails are different, users will need to contact customer service. The same Funimation login information can also be used to sign in to a Crunchyroll account afterwards.

Additionally, Funimation’s Digital Copy purchases will not be transferred over to Crunchyroll because of the latter’s inability to support it.

Here are some other key points to note for Crunchyroll’s sunset of Funimation website and app:

  • • Those that want a refund of their Funimation subscription will need to reach out to customer service before April 2nd, 2024.
  • • Any subscriber with a legacy subscription plan will see a price increase.
  • • For Funimation subscribers located in Canada, the annual plan for Funimation will not roll over into Crunchyroll, but the watch history and queue list of that account will.
  • • For Funimation subscribers in Chile looking to maintain their subscription, watch history, and queue list, users will need to opt in and confirm their Crunchyroll account by April 2, 2024. Otherwise, their current Funimation subscription will be canceled. The account can be confirmed by logging into Crunchyroll using Funimation credentials. If users already have a Crunchyroll account, both accounts will be merged, and they will receive a prompt upon login to migrate past watch history and information.
  • • Roku Pay subscribers will be changed into a Crunchyroll Fan Plan.

More information about Funimation’s sunset can be found on the company’s official website.
