A new key visual, five new cast members, and three short teaser trailers have been unveiled for the upcoming DAN DA DAN TV anime series. The anime adaptation will premiere in Japan on October 3, 2024.
The new trailers highlight three themes connected with the show. The first “Battle” trailer spotlights Okarun’s battle with the Flatwoods Monster.
The second “Love” trailer focuses on the budding relationship between Momo and Okarun and features the main ending theme “TAIDADA” by ZUTOMAYO.
The third and final “Occult” trailer teases more of the alien and yokai creatures of the supporting cast.
Meanwhile, the five new cast members for the supernatural creatures featured in the trailers include:

- • Kikuko Inoue as Acrobatic Silky
- • Tomokazu Seki as the Dover Demon
- • Tomokazu Sugita as Taro
- • Fumi Hirano as Hana
The new cast members join a main cast that includes:
- • Shion Wakayama as Momo Ayase
- • Natsuki Hanae as Ken Takakura/Okarun
- • Mayumi Tanaka as Turbo Granny
- • Kazuya Nakai as Serpoians
- • Nana Mizuki as Seiko Ayase
- • Ayane Sakura as Aira Shiratori
- • Kaito Ishikawa as Jin Enjoji/Jiji
Fuga Yamashiro (Keep Your Hands off Eizouken! co-assistant director) is directing the anime series, with Hiroshi Seko (Chainsaw Man) as series screenwriter, Naoyuki Onda (MF Ghost, Inuyashiki) as character designer, Yoshimichi Kameda (Mob Psycho character designer) as alien and yokai designer, and Kensuke Ushio (Tengoku-Daimakyo, The Heike Story) as music composer. Science SARU is handling the animation production.
MBS partnered with ADN, GKIDS, and Muse Asia for a global theatrical premiere of the anime outside of Japan titled DAN DA DAN: First Encounter. The anime screened in Southeast Asia on August 31, 2024 and in Europe on September 7, 2024. It was also screened in North America for a limited-time engagement from September 13, 2024 to September 15, 2024.
DAN DA DAN: First Encounter premiered in over 50 countries and regions, including Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa through mid-September.
Yukinobu Tatsu’s original sci-fi occult manga series was first serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform on April 6, 2021. Fifteen tankobon volumes have been released as of July 2024, with a 16th volume due out on October 4, 2024. VIZ Media releases the manga in English in print and digital format in North America. Crunchyroll also published the print version of the manga in France and Germany from 2022 and 2023.
Crunchyroll and Netflix are streaming DAN DA DAN outside of Japan, and describes the main synopsis as:
This is a story about Momo, a high school girl who comes from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult fanatic. After Momo rescues Okarun from being bullied, they begin talking. However, an argument ensues between them since Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens exist, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts exist.
To prove to each other what they believe in is real, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital where a UFO has been spotted and Okarun goes to a tunnel rumored to be haunted. To their surprise, they each encounter overwhelming paranormal activities that transcend comprehension. Amid these predicaments, Momo awakens her hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse to overcome these new dangers! Their fateful love begins as well!?
