A new key visual has been revealed for the Given: Umi E anime film, which has been playing in Japanese theaters as of September 20, 2024.
Given: Umi E serves as the second part to Given: Hiiragi Mix, which premiered in Japan on January 27, 2024. Both are sequels to the 2019 Given TV anime series and the 2020 anime film.
Noriko Hashimoto is directing the film, with Mina Osawa as character designer and Yuniko Ayana as scriptwriter. Lerche is in charge of the animation production.
Meanwhile, the anime’s main voice cast includes:
- • Shogo Yano as Mafuyu
- • Yuma Uchida as Ritsuka
- • Masatomo Nakazawa as Haruki
- • Takuya Eguchi as Akihiko
- • Fumiya Imai as Hiiragi
- • Taito Ban as Shizusumi
The anime is based on the original Boys’ Love manga by Natsuki Kizu, which was serialized in Shinshokan’s Chéri+ magazine from April 30, 2013 to March 30, 2023. Nine total tankobon volumes have been released.
The original manga also inspired an epilogue spin-off titled Given 10th mix in 2024 and an audio drama in 2016.
VIZ Media’s SuBLime imprint releases the Given manga in English, describing the main synopsis as:
Ritsuka Uenoyama is bored with it all — with school, with his basketball club, and even with his one true passion: playing guitar. That is, until the day he finds his favorite hidden napping spot occupied by a strange boy cradling a broken-stringed guitar. At first, Uenoyama is nonplussed by Mafuyu Sato and his slightly odd behavior, but when, on a whim, he asks Mafuyu to sing, the power of that song pierces him to the core.
