Haikyu!! Movie Makes Almost US$30 Million, Continues Be #1 At Japan Weekend Box Office


The Haikyu!!: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump anime movie, which debuted at the Japanese box office on February 16, has now made over 4.18 billion yen (~US$27.76 million), Kogyo Tsushin reports.

1.12 billion yen (~US$7.4 million) of that haul came from the sequel film’s second weekend, which saw it remaining at the top of the weekend ranking (February 23 to 25) with a cinema attendance of 781 thousand. The total attendance numbers so far is calculated to be over 2.9 million.

During its opening weekend, Haikyu!!: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump made 2.23 billion yen (~US$14.79 million) and saw an attendance of an attendance of 1.529 million. IMAX screenings started on the same date as the regular screenings.

With its current total gross, Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump has already surpassed Demon Slayer: To the Hashira Training‘s 1.77 billion yen (~US$11.74 million) and is closing in on Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom‘s 3.48 billion yen (~US$23.09 million). Those films, which hold the third and fourth spots on the weekend ranking, premiered on February 2 and January 26, respectively.

Spy x Family Code: White, which opened on December 22 last year, continued to remain at the seventh spot of the ranking. Last week, it was reported that it had made over 6 billion yen (~US$39.8 million).
