Howl’s Moving Castle first premiered in 2004 at the 61st Venice Film Festival, before being released in Japan by Toho on November 20, 2004. Walt Disney Pictures then released the film in the United States with an English dub on June 10, 2005. GKIDS licensed the film in 2017 and rereleased it later that October.

Miyazaki directed and wrote the film’s screenplay, with long-time collaborators Toshio Suzuki serving as producer and Joe Hisaishi as music composer. Studio Ghibli was the animation production company.

Howl’s Moving Castle is loosely based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Diana Wynne Jones

The Studio Ghibli Fest 2024 lineup will run throughout the rest of the year and includes other celebrations such as the 25th anniversary of Kiki’s Delivery Service and the 30th anniversary of Pom Poko. Fourteen total animated features from the studio will be shown in both original Japanese and English dubbed versions, with extra content included as well.
