Kagurabachi Winner of Next Manga Awards 2024’s Print Manga Category

The results of the Next Manga Awards 2024 have been announced. Taking the first place for the Print Manga category is the action title Kagurabachi, while the Web Manga winner is the music drama Girl meets Rock!

Takeru Hokazono‘s Kagurabachi debuted last September in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump and is set to be released in English this fall via Viz Media. The revenge tale, which involves swords, the yakuza, and sorcerers, went viral during its release month thanks to memes that framed it as one of the greatest manga ever made. In March of this year, it placed seventh in the Manga We Want to See Animated 2024 ranking.

Meanwhile, Girl meets Rock! (Futsu no Kei-On Bu) — which is written by Kuwahali and illustrated by Tetsuo Ideuchi — started serialization on Shonen Jump+ in January 2024. The story follows a first-year high school student who joins the light music club. The series was available on Manga Plus but got removed from the service recently.

The runner-ups for the Next Manga Awards 2024’s Print Category were Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun if: Episode of Mafia (hiroja and Nishi Osamu) and Tsumiki Ogami & the Strange Everyday Life (MIiyu Morishita). The English edition of Kiyoko Iwami‘s My Girlfriend’s Not Here Today yuri drama received the Global Special Prize.

For the Web Manga category, the runner-ups were Masaoki Shindo‘s RuriDragon and sakamegane‘s Vtuber Kusamura Shigemi. The Global Special Prize winner for this category was the Traditional Chinese edition of Keigo Saito’s Samurai in Another World.

The Next Manga Awards (Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taishou) was established by DAVINCI and niconico and started in 2014. Nominations are derived from user submissions, which are based on what users “feel have the potential to become the next big hits.” The results are later determined by global votes.

Last year’s Next Manga Awards saw Muchimaro‘s There Is Also a Hole in the Student Organization! winning in the print manga category and Sumiko Arai‘s The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy At All placing first in the web manga category.
