Square Enix recently announced that its beloved Kingdom Hearts games will be coming to Steam on June 13 this year. The upcoming Steam release now has a lengthy announcement trailer that clocks in at over 4-and-a-half minutes, with a re-recorded version of Utada Hikaru’s “Simple and Clean” accompanying viewers all the way.
The first Kingdom Hearts game was released way back in 2002, kicking off a JRPG series full of confusing titles where players got to interact with various Disney characters. The Steam release will include Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5, Kingdom Hearts 2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, Kingdom Hearts III, and Kingdom Hearts III‘s Re Mind DLC.
“Now, for the first time, Steam users can join Sora, Donald Duck, Goofy, and many other Disney and Pixar characters on adventures through the “Dark Seeker Saga,” spanning from the original KINGDOM HEARTS to the critically acclaimed KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC), delivering 10 magical experiences,” says the Steam announcement trailer’s video description.
Kingdom Hearts III was first released in 2019, over a decade of 2005’s Kingdom Hearts II. Kingdom Hearts IV was announced in April 2022. The series is directed by Tetsura Nomura, the character designer of multiple Final Fantasy games (including VII). Nomura recently directed 2020’s Final Fantasy VII Remake and served as creative director for 2024’s Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
