An upcoming language learning book from Kodansha will allow readers to learn English sentences with the heroines of Negi Haruba‘s The Quintessential Quintuplets.
The book is titled The Quintessential Quintuplets: How do you say it in English? and will launch in Japanese bookstores on August 22 JST. A variety of situations are contained within the book, with each having sentences from all five Nakano sisters. The intention is to allow readers to learn more than a single potential response while getting to appreciate the varied personalities of the characters.
Fill-in-the-blanks questions and a “famous quote quiz” section will also be included, and English voicelines can be listened to for free on a special website.
The Quintessential Quintuplets manga started serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine in 2017 and ended in 2020 with 14 tankoubon volumes. The romantic comedy has inspired two TV anime seasons, an anime movie, and a two-part 2023 TV anime special titled The Quintessential Quintuplets~. A new TV anime, The Quintessential Quintuplets*, was announced in July and will have a three-week theatrical screening in Japan starting September 20 JST.
Kodansha USA describes the manga as:
Five girls who want to do anything but study, and their tutor: a high school boy who’s got book smarts and not much else. Futaro Uesugi took the tutoring gig because he was desperate for cash, but when his students—the five beautiful daughters of a wealthy businessman—find five times the excuses to slack off, what can he do?! At this rate, the sisters won’t graduate, so if he wants to get paid, Futaro must think of a plan to suit each of them … Which feels hopeless when five out of five of them think he’s a loser!
