Kodansha USA has announced that it will be hosting a “Kodansha House: Where Manga Meets” pop-up event starting on October 4, 2024.
The immersive pop-up will be located at 45 Grand Street in SoHo, New York City and will be running throughout the month of October. It will be open weekly on Wednesdays to Sundays from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Kodansha House will feature a giant manga shelf entryway that leads into a gallery, café, lounge, and a robust manga library. There will also be a diverse lineup of activities throughout the month such as the Toast of Tardiness Challenge, trivia nights, speed dating sessions, live discussions, interactive exhibits, and movie screenings of Akira, Blue Lock, Ghost in the Shell, and Blame!.
In addition, four manga creators will make rare U.S. appearances with Q&A sessions and signings at Kodansha House. The guests and their expected appearance dates will include:
- • Shuzo Oshimi (The Flowers of Evil) — October 4 and 5
- • Tsubasa Yamaguchi (Blue Period) — October 11 and 13
- • Makoto Yukimura (Vinland Saga) — October 18 and 19
- • Kamome Shirahama (Witch Hat Atelier) — October 20
Reservations for the signings and other events will be open on September 10, 2024.
The pop-up will also feature several manga-themed activations:
- • Akira Slide Photo Booth: Fans can suit up in Kaneda’s iconic jacket and goggles, and pose with the iconic Akira stationary bike against a projected anime background in a four-shot sequence.
- • Titan’s Fury — Attack on Titan Photo Booth: This is a massive, real-life scaled model of the Attack on Titan walled village. Fans can become Titans and act out scenes from the manga as they reach over walls and grab tiny figures made of candy or chocolate. The moment will be captured on video for fans to add to their social media.
