LIMITS is a digital art competition, in which artists compete one-on-one in a live environment. The usual format involves two random themes being decided before the start of each round, and then the artist has 20 minutes to develop an artwork.
The winner of each round is decided by a combination of audience members and a panel of judges, based on both the process and the final artwork. They progress to the next round of a single elimination format, continuing to face off against other artists until the champion is crowned.
Artists can use software and tools of their choice, whether it’s Illustration, Animation, Manga, Art, or Design! To see LIMITS in action, check out LIMITS on YouTube.
LIMITS x Anime Trending GLOBAL QUALIFIER
The LIMITS x Anime Trending GLOBAL QUALIFIER is broken down into two stages. Stage 1 is an open application round. Participants will have until July 31st, 11:59pm PT to create an artwork to a predetermined pair of themes: Tokyo and Adventure.
Just like the live competition, each participant will be limited to 20 minutes to create their piece. Artists will have to take a screen recording of their work in progress, which can not be longer than 20 minutes. They will then link to the progress video, as well as their final artwork, via the submission form.
In the first week of August, the community will vote on their favorite submissions via a poll on Anime Trending. The top 10 will be announced on August 10th, with the top 4 progressing to Stage 2 of the GLOBAL QUALIFIER.
Stage 2 is a live competition, which will take place online on the weekend of August 17. Artists will compete live in a single elimination bracket, facing each other one-on-one for a total of two rounds — semi finals and finals.
Two themes will be selected at random before the start of each round, and participants will only have 20 minutes to complete an artwork live. To facilitate this process, artists will be asked to screen share their software of choice as they create.
The winner of each round will be determined by a panel of judges. The winner of the final round will win a trip to Tokyo, Japan, to compete in the LIMITS CHAMPIONSHIP in Shibuya on October 5-6.
The winner of the LIMITS CHAMPIONSHIP in October will take home 1,000,000 JPY.
