Maho Nare Fantasy Anime Premieres This October

Mahoutsukai ni Narenakatta Onnanoko no Hanashi (The Story of a Girl Who Couldn’t Become a Mage), an original fantasy anime based on the winner of Project ANIMA’s Isekai/Fantasy category, will begin airing in October. There’s also a trailer, an image visual that can be viewed on its website, and details about the main staff.

Working on Maho Nare are Takashi Watanabe (How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom director) as chief director, Masato Matsune (Reign of the Seven Spellblades) as director, and Hiroko Kanasugi (Shoot! Goal to the Future) as series composer. J.C.STAFF was previously revealed to be the animation production studio.

Comic Natalie describes it as a school fantasy about the growth of two contrasting female leads who failed to achieve their dreams of becoming mages, and their friendship with their idiosyncratic classmates. The plot is based on a novel submission by Yuuzuki Akasaka.

Project Anima is a joint initiative by DeNA, Nippon Cultural Broadcasting, Sotsu, and MBS that focuses on the production of original TV anime series. The basis of these shows’ stories are submitted novels, scripts, manga, and proposals.

There are three categories in Project ANIMA: Science fiction/Robot, Isekai/Fantasy, and Kids/Game. The former led to the creation of 2021’s Sakugan, and the latter will be represented by the Doga Kobo-produced Mevius Dust. The submission and selection processes were carried out between February 2018 to March 2019.
