An emotional Chika Komari gets the spotlight in the latest “losing heroine” visual of the ongoing Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! TV anime series. The anime first premiered in Japan on July 14, 2024 and will run for 12 episodes.
It was also announced that the anime’s final episode will be an original episode with a brand new story, based on a concept by original author Takibi Amamori.
Shotaro Kitamura (Overtake! Episode 4 and Shaman King Flowers Episode 5 storyboard artist and director) is directing the anime, with Masahiro Yokotani (Ohmuro-ke: Dear Sisters) as series screenwriter, Tetsuya Kawakami (86 Eighty-Six) as character designer, Yu Saito (Warlords of Sigrdrifa Episode 4 ending animation character designer) as sub-character designer, Ayaka Murakami (Sword Art Online -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night) as color designer, Yuki Hatakeyama (The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes) as art director, Yohei Miyawaki (Fate／strange Fake Whispers of Dawn) as compositing director, and Kana Utatane (Overtake!) as music composer. A-1 Pictures is handling the animation production.
Miura Takumitsu, Akane Takeda, and Mirai Kawashima (Kaguya-sama: Love is War -Ultra Romantic in-between animation checker) are working as main animators in the series.
Meanwhile, the anime’s main voice cast include:

The anime is based on the romantic comedy light novel series, written by Amamori and illustrated by Imigimuru. It was first published by Gagaga Bunko on July 21, 2021 and has released seven volumes as of July 2024, along with a short story collection. The series won the Gagaga Award at the 15th Shogakukan Light Novel Taisho event.
The light novels also inspired a manga adaptation by Itachi, which has been serialized on Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday website and MangaONE app since April 29, 2022. Three tankobon volumes have been released as of July 2024. Seven Seas Entertainment releases The Too Many Losing Heroines! light novel and manga in English.
Crunchyroll is streaming Too Many Losing Heroines! worldwide, outside of Japan, and describes the main synopsis as:
Meet the girls on the losing side of romance! First is Anna Yanami, the girl-next-door type who can’t say no to delicious food. Then there’s Lemon Yakishio, a beautiful and spirited athlete. Last but not least is Chika Komari, the cute yet shy heroine with gentle charm. Together, they navigate awkward setbacks hoping to finally find love!
