With Parasyte The Grey‘s April 5 release date getting closer, Netflix has dropped a teaser trailer and a visual for the upcoming live-action Korean adaptation of the Parasyte manga. The former explains the show’s premise and is generous in showing off the alien parasites and their ability to morph their host human bodies, especially in terms of splitting their heads open and growing tentacles.
Parasyte: The Grey‘s main character is Jeong Su-in, a girl who is forced to coexist with a parasite. The show will also follow Seol Kang-woo, a man who is tracking down parasites in order to find his sister, and Choi Jun-kyung, the leader of the counter-parasite Team Grey.
The original Kodansha-published manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki was serialized from 1988 to 1995 and initially collected into 10 tankoubon volumes. A spin-off, Parasyte Reversi, ran from 2018 to 2021 and has eight tankoubon volumes. A TV anime adaptation of Parasyte directed by Kenichi Shimizu (All Out!) and produced by Madhouse ran from 2014 to 2015 with 24 episodes. A two-part Japanese live action movie was released in 2014 and 2015.
