The popular Summer 2022 original anime Lycoris Recoil is getting a second spin-off light novel. The new book, titled Lycoris Recoil: Recovery Days, will launch in Japan on March 8.
Like its predecessor, 2022’s Lycoris Recoil: Ordinary Days, Recovery Days is written by Asaura, the story draft writer for the anime series and author of light novels like Ben-To and the recently launched Double Helix Blossom manga. Also returning is illustrator Imigimuru, the anime’s character designer and the artist behind the This Art Club Has a Problem! manga. The light novel will once again be published under KADOKAWA’s Dengeki Bunko label.
The official synopsis isn’t forthcoming with plot details, but readers can expect more Chisato and Takina, and also more of the LycoReco cafe.
The Lycoris Recoil anime started airing on July 2, 2022 and ended with 13 episodes. The action series, which features girls-with-guns and buddy-action elements, is set in a Japan where a secret agency uses teenage female agents to preempt terrorist attacks. Crunchyroll and Bilili streamed the show.
Crunchyroll describes the plot as:
For these peaceful days――there’s a secret behind it all. A secret organization that prevents crimes: “DA – Direct Attack”. And their group of all-girl agents: “Lycoris”. This peaceful everyday life is all thanks to these young girls. The elite Chisato Nishikigi is the strongest Lycoris agent of all time. Alongside is Takina Inoue, the talented but mysterious Lycoris. They work together at one of its branches–Café LycoReco. Here, the orders this café takes range from coffee and sweets to childcare, shopping, teaching Japanese to foreign students, etc. It’s mostly tasks unbefitting of Lycoris. The free-spirited and optimistic pacifist, Chisato. And the cool-headed and efficient Takina. The chaotic everyday lives of this mismatched duo begin!
The previous light novel was so popular that a second round of reprints was ordered before its launch. KADOKAWA said on September 8, the day before the book’s release, that over 100,000 copies had been produced from the reprints. The anime has also inspired a manga adaptation and two manga anthologies.
A new Lycoris Recoil anime was announced in February 2023, although it is still unknown if it will be a new season, a movie, or something else.
