Eguchi ran the series in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from October 19, 1981 to November 28, 1983. A total of four tankobon volumes were released in total. The series’ first 15 chapters were previously released digitally in English by NTT Solmare in 2010.

Shogakukan later republished the manga series as “Complete Edition” volumes that featured new cover art, revised chapters, and extra story content. It was released in three volumes between July 2009 to February 2010. Shogakukan would republish the series again between May 2012 to July 2012

The manga also inspired a 35-episode TV anime adaptation from Toei Animation that aired from May 20, 1983 to January 27, 1984.

PEOW2 describes the manga series as:

Stop!! Hibari-kun! is one of the OG trans protagonists to lead a manga in this classic romantic comedy from one of Japan’s most iconic artists, Hisashi Eguchi.
