Rascal Does Not Dream “University Student Arc” Anime Confirmed in New PV Trailer

A special New Year livestream for the Rascal Does Not Dream anime series revealed a short new PV trailer formally announcing the adaptation of the “University Student Arc.”

The PV trailer was first shown last month after each showing of Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Girl. Details about the anime adaptation of the “University Student Arc” have not yet been revealed. The adaptation was first announced back in December 2023, marking the conclusion of the anime’s overall High School story arc.

The livestream also highlighted a visual, featuring Mai Sakurajima, for the “Seishun Buta Yarou wa School Memory no Yume o Minai -SeiButa-ten-” exhibition, which celebrates the fifth anniversary of the anime, as well as the conclusion of the stories set in high school. The exhibition was originally announced in November 2023.

The exhibition will be held from March 12, 2024 to March 24, 2024 at the 8th Floor Event Square area of the Matsuya Ginza department store in Tokyo. It will also tour to locations in Nagoya, Osaka, and Kyoto, with dates to be determined later on.

A separate large scale event titled “Seishun Buta Yaro wa Sugar Diary no Yume o Minai” will also be held on April 7, 2024 at the Chigasaki Civic Cultural Center in Kanagawa, located south of Tokyo. It will feature numerous musical recitals, live recordings, voice actor appearances, live talk shows, and much more.

The original light novel series, written by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Keji Mizoguchi, was first published by Dengeki Bunko on April 10, 2014 and has released 13 volumes as of July 2023. In addition to the TV anime series and films, the light novel has also inspired several manga adaptations.

The “University Student Arc ” stories begin in the 10th volume of the light novels, starting with Rascal Does Not Dream of a Lost Singer, which was released in Japanese in February 2020. Yen Press releases the light novels in English and describes the synopsis as:

Becoming a college student means starting a whole new life…right? Sakuta honestly isn’t sure. Some things have changed, but some things are still the same. His reputation definitely precedes him just like before. Of course, it’s because the entire school knows he’s dating Mai, who’s as busy as ever with her acting career. Sakuta also still lives in Fujisawa with Kaede, but now his sister regularly attends school remotely and splits her time between the apartment and their parents’ home. And Sweet Bullet is giving it their all to reach stardom together, just like always. Except Uzuki’s been acting a little funny, and maybe, just maybe, Adolescence Syndrome might be the culprit again…
