A recent update from the G Fantasy magazine’s Twitter account revealed that the Black Butler manga will be taking a break from serialization after the release of the monthly magazine’s August 2024 issue.
A statement from Black Butler mangaka Yana Toboso, shared by G Fantasy, said that she would be taking a “slightly long maintenance break,” although she added that this period will also include research and preparations for the story’s climax.
Toboso debuted in 2004 with the one-shot 9th, and Black Butler started its run in 2006. She noted in the statement that she’d managed to advance through these 20 years without rest (and also without major illness) thanks to the warm support of the fans.
Toboso ended by saying that she’d return in “the best condition” and hoped that readers would be able to wait.
The Square Enix-published dark fantasy manga currently has 34 tankoubon volumes. The latest installment of its anime adaptation, Black Butler: Public School Arc, started airing in April.
Yen Press describes the manga as:
Just a stone’s throw from London lies the manor house of the illustrious Phantomhive earldom, its master one Ciel Phantomhive. Earl Phantomhive is a giant in the world of commerce, Queen Victoria’s faithful servant . . . and a slip of a twelve-year old boy. Fortunately, his loyal butler, Sebastian, is ever at his side, ready to carry out the young master’s wishes. And whether Sebastian is called to save a dinner party gone awry or probe the dark secrets of London’s underbelly, there is practically nothing Sebastian cannot do. In fact, one might even say Sebastian is too good to be true . . . or at least, he is too good to be human.
