A new trailer for the upcoming The Colors Within anime film has been released, previewing the film’s main theme song “in the pocket” by pop rock band Mr. Children. The film will premiere in Japan on August 30, 2024 and screen in competition at the prestigious 2024 Annecy International Animated Film Festival later this year.
The Colors Within is directed by Naoko Yamada, who is reunited with scriptwriter Reiko Yoshida (The Heike Story) and music composer Kensuke Ushio (Chainsaw Man) for the project. The trio previously collaborated on A Silent Voice, Liz and the Blue Bird, and The Heike Story.
Other staff include illustrator DaisukeRichard as original character designer and Takashi Kojima (The Heike Story, Ride Your Wave, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet) as the film’s character designer. Science SARU is credited as the animation production company.

GKIDS is screening the film in North America, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand in both English subbed and dubbed next winter. Meanwhile, Anime Limited will screen it in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and all of Europe.
GKIDS describes the premise of The Colors Within as:
Totsuko is a high school student with the ability to see the ‘colors’ of others. Colors of bliss, excitement, and serenity, plus a color she treasures as her favorite. Kimi, a classmate at her school, gives off the most beautiful color of all. Although she doesn’t play an instrument, Totsuko forms a band with Kimi and Rui, a quiet music enthusiast they meet at a used bookstore in a far corner of town. As they practice at an old church on a remote island, music brings them together, forming friendships and stirring affections. Will they discover their true ‘colors’?
