Mankyu is returning to direct the anime’s second season, along with Takeshi Iwata (previously assistant director and CG director). Susumu Sagai is returning as CG director, Yoichi Kato as series screenwriter and scriptwriter, and Ryohei Fukushi as character designer. Lantis is handling the music production once again. Polygon Pictures is the animation production company.

The first 12-episode season premiered on Japanese TV from April 6, 2024 to June 22, 2024. It was screened in Japan in three parts on October 27, 2023, November 24, 2023, and on January 5, 2024.

The anime features idols from the illumination STARS, L’Antica, Houkago Climax Girls, ALSTROEMERIA, and Straylight units. Other characters include 283 Production staff member Hazuki Nanakusa (voiced by Hibiku Yamamura) and 283 president Tsutomu Amai (Kenjiro Tsuda).

The Idolmaster: Shiny Colors is inspired by the video game of the same name, which was released on the enza website on April 24, 2018 and on Android and iOS on March 13, 2019. The game tasks players with playing the role of a new producer at 283 Production, who is put in charge of various idols.
