Koji Shinasaka‘s original mahjong suspense manga ran in Akita Shoten’s Young Champion magazine from June 27, 2006 to April 12, 2011. A total of 12 tankobon volumes were released in total.
The manga was later followed up with Tohai: Hitobashira-hen, Tohai: Minagoroshi-hen, and the ongoing Tohai: Cold Girl, which started in the same magazine on September 28, 2021 and features Amina as the main protagonist. Seven tankobon volumes of Cold Girl have been released as of June 2024.
The series has also inspired several spin-off works and a 2013 live-action film adaptation.

Pony Canyon describes the synopsis of Tohai as:
Money, women, organs. Kei, a high school boy, frequents the underground mahjong parlor teeming with desires, earning him the moniker “K of the ICE” in the underworld due to his cold-hearted strategy and stylish gameplay. Rumors also circulate that he keeps a girl at his home.
